You are probably deciding this with a phone in your hand, in a week you did not plan for, maybe from another city, and maybe with a sibling texting you a different opinion. Nobody has done this often enough to know what is right. So here is what the choice actually involves, what each option costs, and how it gets to the service on time.

What to send for a mother, in plain terms

There are three real decisions, and the rest is detail.

  • Where it will stand. A standing spray or a wreath is meant to be seen by the room, on an easel near the casket. An arrangement in a vase is meant to be close, on a table, and it goes home with the family afterward.
  • Who it is from. Immediate family usually sends the casket piece. Everyone else sends a standing piece or an arrangement, and there is no rule that says yours has to be the largest.
  • What she would have picked. This is the one that matters and the one nobody asks. White and ivory read as traditional and calm. Soft pink and lavender read as warm and personal. If she had a color she wore or grew in her garden, use that. It will mean more to the people who knew her than any convention.

The word on it is the whole piece

Most of what we build for a mother is a lettered wreath, and the word is what the room reads from the back row. MOM is the one people expect. It is not the only one we make. We letter ABU, ABUELA, ABUELITA, MAMI, MAMA, NANA and whatever the grandchildren actually called her, in English or in Spanish, because in Miami those are often two different words in the same family.

Getting it there on time is the part that goes wrong

Services do not wait. We deliver to Miami funeral homes and we confirm the viewing hours with the home and where they want it set, because a piece that arrives during the service is a piece nobody sees. The ribbon, the lettering and the card

A sash on a standing piece usually says Mother, Mom, Abuela, or the name the grandchildren used. Send us the words exactly as you want them to read and we print them that way, in any language and with the right accents, because this is not a place where a spelling mistake can be fixed afterward. If you would rather it be handwritten, say so and it will be.

If you cannot be there

We photograph the piece once it is placed at the funeral home and send it to you, ribbon and all, wherever you are. People who are grieving from another city tell us this is the part they did not know they needed.
